Roman's Classic Tomato and Garlic Sauce

Alison Roman's everyday red sauce: crushed tomatoes, a lot of garlic, and onion cooked down long enough that it doesn't need sugar. Good on a big bowl of pasta, as the start of a quick ragù, or layered into baked ziti.

• Ingredients: crushed tomatoes, water, fresh onion, olive oil, fresh garlic, kosher salt, black pepper
• No added sugar; sweetness comes from slow-cooked onion
• Cooked in small batches with olive oil
• Single jar
